《A Gathering of Friends》是 John Williams 晚年事業高峰期推出的又一佳作。《Cello Concerto》是他最具抒情性的協奏曲作品之一，於 1994 年為馬友友創作，並於 2001 年錄製。專輯中收錄的是修改後的版本。二十年後，經過兩人的深思熟慮，這部作品顯得更加緊湊、熱烈，並具有更加明顯的歡樂情趣。專輯最後一曲《Song》也經過改編，紐約愛樂樂團的表現可圈可點。電影《辛德勒的名單》中的配樂一如既往地感人肺腑，吉他與豎琴作品（如作曲家 2018 年為紀念伯恩斯坦百年誕辰創作的《Highwood’s Ghost》）優美動聽，樂團的演奏也極富感染力。
